Merovingian knight from a bas-relief in the church of Saint Julien at Brioude, France. Attributed to the 8th century but has a general character of the tenth or eleventh century. The warrior is shown wearing a hauberk called Jazerans or Korazins. Without any leggings but with sleeves that reached the wrist, the warrior also wears a conical casque with chin piece. |

French warrior of the 13th century from a champlevé enamel on copper, in high relief, 4 inches in height, in the collection of M. le Comte de Nieuwerkerke. It is alternately enamelled in blue and gilt and in shades of citron and orange. The sword-guard has the two ends turned towards the point of the sword, the helm is crested, the armour covered with the Waffenrock and the horse is caparisoned. |

The plain bassinet is noticeable, on the account of the frontlet, a kind of vizor which resembles the shade or peak on modern caps. The Gothic capitals is use from 1200 to 1360, shows that the canvas cannot date later than 14th century. |
