Ancient Rome
The Bible mentions that Rome ruled the world during the time of Jesus, and Israel was part of a province within the Roman Empire. According to history Rome became the world empire in 44 BC after the fall of the Grecian empire. Rome, the capital city was located in Italy along the Tiber River about 15 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. The city was founded in 752 BC and was governed by kings until 509 BC. Then it was governed by consuls until the man Julius Caesar made himself dictator in 45 BC. His adopted son Octavian (Augustus) took upon himself the title of emperor in 30 BC. The Roman Empire was at the height of its power and Augustus was famous for bringing "peace" to the whole world. Yet it was during the time of Augustus that Jesus was born, the one who be the real peace bringer to the world. Jesus began his ministry at 30 years of age, he did many miracles, made disciples, and taught in the land of Israel for nearly 3 years when he was finally accused of blasphemy by the Jewish authorities in Jerusalem. He was then brought to Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea who was pressured against his will to have Jesus crucified on a Roman cross. Jesus predicted that this sin would bring the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. The event happened in 70 AD by 4 Roman legions and is commemorated on a giant relief on the Arch of Titus in Rome. The archaeological discoveries of ancient Rome are plentiful. There are multiple busts of Roman Emperors, archaeological remains, ancient aqueducts, and much more. Everything confirms the historicity of the Bible.
