Smith's Bible Dictionary. (belonging to Apollo), a city of Macedonia, through which Paul and Silas passed in their way from Philippi and Amphipolis to Thessalonica. Ac 17:1 According to the Antonine Itinerary it was distant 30 Roman miles from Amphipolis and 37 Roman miles from Thessalonica.  /smiths/A/Apollonia/

(Sozusa): Arsuf. The name is probably not originally taken from Apollo (Egypt- Horus) but from Apollonius, son of Thraseas, who governed Coele-Syria for Seleucus Antipater (Macc x:69 ff). It was rebuilt by Gabinius in 57 B.C.
