Cana in Smiths
Bible Dictionary. (place of reeds) of Galilee, once Cana in Galilee, a village
or town not far from Capernaum, memorable as the scene of Christ's first
miracle, Joh 2:1,11; 4:46 as well as of a subsequent one, Joh 4:46,54 and also
as the native place of the apostle Nathanael. Joh 21:2 The traditional site is
at Kefr-Kenna, a small village about 4 1/2 miles northwest of Nazareth. The
rival site is a village situated farther north, about five miles north of
Seffurieh (Sepphoris) and nine north of Nazareth.

Khirbet. Qana. A small city in Galilee 5 miles south of Sepphoris. This was
where Jesus performed His first miracle by turning the water into wine at a
wedding feast (Jn 2:1, 11). Wine always pointed to the joy that would be in
Messiah's kingdom. Jesus also healed a nobleman's sick son in Cana (Jn 4:46-54).
This was also the city of Nathaniel:
John 21:1-2 "After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at
the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, Thomas
called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two
others of His disciples were together."
In Byzantine and Medieval times a city called Khirbet Qana was identified as the
site of the miracle and many pilgrims visited there.
