Kabul. Greek form of name of Cabul "sterile, worthless" Heb. kebel, "a fetter." A city and also a district of 20 cities on the NE border of Asher. Josh 19:27. Solomon gave this territory to Hiram, king of Tyre, in return for work in building the Temple. When Hiram saw them he was displeased, and he said, " 'What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?' So they were called the land of Cabul to this day" (1 Kings 9:13). Hiram probably had no use for any cities too far from the coast, as was common with Phoenicians. It has been identified with the modern Kabul, S of Acco. The site was excavated and proved to be an important phoenician city.
