Tell. el-Qadi Greek name of the O.T. Dan. It was formerly Laish, but taken by the Danites and called Dan. The city of Dan was located at the northern border of Canaan (Judg 20:1) and the northern border of the Northern Kingdom during the period of the Divided Kingdom. This is where Jeroboam established calf worship after he led the ten tribes away from the Hebrew monarchy (1 Kings 12:29-33). There are still important excavations going on there with mounds covering 50-60 acres.
