Boanerges
BOANER'GES (bo-a-nur'jez; Gk. from Aram. "Sons of thunder," "noise," regosha,
cf. Arab. rejasa, "to rumble"-- thunder).
An epithet used of
James and
John (Mk 3:17), denoting probably their fiery eloquence (Jerome) or zeal. It may,
however, refer to their quick temper and disposition to violence <Luke
9:52-56>.
Compare Aram. riggusha (Syr. regsha, "tumult"; rugza, "anger").
