ARCHAEOLOGY

Sumerian Deluge Tablet

Deluge Tablet

The adventures of Gilgamesh, the king of Erech according to legend, are described in detail on a series of 12 cuneiform tablets discovered in the ruins of ancient Nineveh. The tablet above is the 11th tablet and reveals the Babylonian story of the flood. In the epic of Gilgamesh the story is revealed by Uta-napishtim, who was instructed to build an ark and was rescued with his family from the great flood. The account is much different than the Biblical event of the flood of Noah. The Sumerian stories date back to around 2000 BC. and the Epic of Gilgamesh Tablet in the British museum dates back to the 6th century BC. The actual flood of Noah was much older, around 2800 BC.

Genesis 4:21: And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
