The City of David - First Century Jerusalem

bar-kochba-coin-small.jpgA portion of the SE hill of Jerusalem, including Mt. Zion, where the fortress of the Jebusites stood. This fortress was reduced by David, who built a new palace and city, named after him (1 Chron 11:5).

 

Bethlehem, the native town of David, is also called, from that circumstance, the city of David (Luke 2:11).
