LAWYER (Gk. nomikos, according to "law").
A term used to signify one who was familiar with the Mosaic law (Mt 22:35; Lk
7:30; 10:25; 11:45; 14:3; Tit 3:13), and probably applied to a scribe in his
practical administration of the law in the pronouncement of legal decisions.
It is not by accident that the expression is so frequently used by Luke. He
purposes by this repetition to make clear to his Roman readers the character of
the Jewish scribes
