Zarephath

A town that was famous from having been the residence of the prophet Elijah during the drought (1 Ki 17:9-10). The Bible doesn't give its location. Josephus (Ant. 8.13.2) says that it was "not far from Sidon and Tyre, for it lay between them." It is on the seashore, N of Tyre. To this Jerome adds (Onom., "Sarefta") that it "lay on the public road," i.e., the coast road.
