The Ten Tribes in the North were Carried Away

The Kingdom of Israel had lasted for about 200 years and had finally come to an end in 722 B.C. The 10 tribes in the north were carried off to Assyria and never heard from again. Nothing is known about them and they became the 10 lost tribes of Israel. Many speculations have emerged about them in world history but nothing has ever been more than conjecture.

There is a possibility that the 10 tribes were not completely obliterated in Assyria because there are verses in the New Testament that reveal their existence, for example:

Luke 2:36-38 "Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem."
