There was a Rumor of Approaching Egyptian Forces

The Egyptians suddenly came to the aid of Jerusalem. When the Egyptian army appeared in the land of Judah it not only drew the Babylonians away for a period of time, but it brought hope to the struggling city. Their food supply was exhausted, but the people held on in anticipation, hoping the Egyptians might bring them relief from the siege. Egypt was unable to bring deliverance to Jerusalem.
